Tessa Houghton

Tessa studied Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating in 1998. After completing her degree she moved back to Lancashire for a short time before moving to Barcelona in 2000 where she began to paint the sea. She describes her work as hovering between abstraction and figuration and believes in the power of suggestion. She focuses mainly on natural landscapes, working predominently in oils and mixed media on canvas, drawing inspiration from the Catalonian coast, the Pyrenees mountains and the moorlands of northern England. Tessa strives to capture and translate into her work the limitless horizons and the ethereal qualities of light that she sees around her.

She says, 'I like the idea that my paintings will trigger a memory or a sensation by being recognisable or familiar in some way. The final interpretation is left open to the viewer.'
