Mike Service
Price range: £300 - £2,500
Mike Service is one of those few artists whose style and technique is distinctive and instantly recognisable – horizon lines blurred between sea and sky, giving an air of peace and tranquility to his boat scenes and seascapes, or richly textured still life, where one can almost see through the cut glass holding the flowers.
Living and working in Bath, his inspiration still comes from the nearby coastline and his beloved Anglesea. Following early retirement Mike finally pursued his lifelong ambition to become a full time artist, whilst completing a four year study for a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree and developing his own unique style.
His own words best explain his inspiration - “I am inspired by all around me and in the main, I’m a figurative painter but I do find my work takes on a will of its own and I’m not limited to mimicry of the subject. I work in large canvases with free brushwork of sea and landscapes, big skies and muddy fields. In contrast I enjoy tackling small still lives of fruit and flowers, but all with a rapid and free palette knife. Some more recent work returns to loose pencil sketches with watercolour”.
Mike has exhibited regularly in Bath and the South West, London, Manchester and every summer in Anglesey.
