John Palmer RWA

Price range: £500 - £1600

John Palmer was born in Bristol in 1939 and has lived and worked there all his life. He studied at the West of England College of Art and followed this with an apprenticeship in Design and Illustration for Europe’s then largest printing company.

During his commercial career John worked privately in fine art and in 1985 became an Associate Member of the Royal West of England Academy. In 1989 he decided to pursue his career in fine art full time and in 1991 was elected as an Academician of the Royal West of England Academy.

He has published two books and has provided teaching and articles for national and international magazines including "Artists & Illustrators" and "International Artist". He also leads residential art courses and gives demonstrations and workshops with art societies throughout the UK.

John has had numerous exhibitions and his work is in many private and public collections, including the Marquis of Bath's Wessex Collection. He continues to execute commissions for major corporate clients, and his work has been selected for exhibitions in London in the 'Laing Landscape' and the 'Singer & Friedlander / Sunday Times' water colour competitions. He also has shown work at the Royal Institute of Painters.

He paints with vigour and panache in a distinctive style that only experience can teach. Overdrawing in a precise architectural style carefully delineates his loose washes. This is a unique technique that produces paintings both painstakingly accurate and luminously impressionistic.
