Iryna Yermolova

Iryna Yermolova was born in Ukraine in 1978. She currently lives and works in Dorset, England. Trained in graphic design, it was Iryna's moved to England and her love for the English countryside that inspired her to start painting full time. Experimenting with colour and texture, Iryna seems to have a natural understanding of the materiality of oil paint, her primary medium, which she works impasto as well as in thin washes and glazes creating delicious tensions in her work. She says, 'I love colours, I love experimenting with texture and different medias. I love my palette knife more than my brush. Subjects of my paintings are not so important for me as light, shadow, colours and composition.'

Iryna's work has been featured in Dorset Life Magazine and in November 2011 she won the Winsor & Newton Prize for Life Drawing Portrait.
